Luminous phenomenon in the upper layers of the atmosphere, which can be seen near the North and South Poles. This occurs when charged particles originating from space, particularly from the solar wind, are deflected towards Earth. They impact with gas molecules in the Earth's atmosphere and begin to emit light. Polar lights are thus caused by particles of the solar wind entering the upper layers of the Earth's atmosphere.
